Morehouse Glee Club

The Morehouse Glee Club from Georgia was here in Washington DC on Friday for two different performances.  The Glee Club consists of over 40 young men that sings concerts in many different cities and states.  Some of the songs they sang were: Giving, Seek ye First, Alleluia, I am his child, and Betelehemu ( sung in Yoruba).  At the end of the program the glee club and all the alumni's sang the Morehouse College Hymn.  The Glee club was celebrating 100 years of musical legacy throughout the 2011 calender year.  It has continued in this tradition through the dedication and commitment of its members and the leadership that their directors provided throughout the years.  The current members come from all over the United States and from places around the world.  While many are music majors, the singers come from majors in all divisions of the college.  The Glee Club sings all types of music such as: Classical, Spirituals, Gospel, and traditional African music.  If you find out they are scheduled to do a concert in your area, make plans to hear them.  It would be a concert that you wouldn't forget.

Lake of Isles/Golf

How well do you like to play Golf?  Would you like to play while visiting Connecticut?  Set deep in the Connecticut countryside and surrounded by a 90-acre lake, the award winning Lake of isles is the ultimate golf experience.  Rolling fairways,  island tees and greens make for breath-taking views on every hole.  Designed by acclaimed golf course architect Rees Jones, the north and south courses stretch over 7,300 yards and offer five sets of tees, designed to make it an enjoyable test for every skill level.  The exquisite 50,000 square feet Lake of Isles Clubhouse is cut deep into the side of a high hill and crafted in ancient stone and stout timbers.  Stunning views of the lake are afforded from almost any room.  Matches tavern, and a casual dining restaurant, is located on the lower level of the clubhouse and is open year round

Harlem Globetrotters

I had a chance to go to a basketball game at the Verizon Center in Washington DC.  The Verizon center is an arena where they have all kinds of entertainment for family and friends.  The Harlem Globetrotters is the main team I went to see.  They are called the Magicians of Basketball for 84 or more tremendous years.  The Harlem Globetrotters have thrilled audiences around the world.  A new generation of stars carries on this tradition with timeless basketball exhibitions.  The Globetrotters have played more than 25,000 games entertaining everyone from Presidents to Popes.  The "Ambassadors of Goodwill" have dunked their way into the hearts of basketball fans both young and old.  If you want to have a good laugh and enjoy a good game, then make plans to see them in action.  While doing some of your travels plans, check to see if the Globetrotters are scheduled to be where you are traveling.  Get your tickets early because they draw a crowd wherever they play.

Kenya

Kenya beckons the traveler with a magical mix of incredible wildlife, rich cultural heritage, palm fringed beaches and coastal towns seeped in Swahili history. No matter how many Tarzan movies you've seen, nothing will prepare you for the annual migration of the wildebeest, and wherever you lay your head you'll be romanced by the star-studded night sky and your imagination stirred by the noises of the African night. If you've ever fantasized about Africa, sleeping in the bush, surrounded by wildlife or walking with tribespeople beneath the broad African sky, then Kenya is for you.

Please check out some of the information for Kenya:

Malawi

The tourist brochures bill Malawi as the heart of Africa, and for once the hype is true. Malawi's ever changing landscape takes you from the top of lofty mountains, down steep escarpments, through woodland, farmland and empty grassland, to the shores of a magnificent lake. Nature lovers will adore the national parks and game reserves, mountain hiking, lake diving, and boating. Malawians tend to be extremely friendly towards travelers with a warm welcome. The dry season for Malawi is April to November. Great emphasis is placed on their handshakes, involving linked thumbs or fingers, or the left hand touching the right elbow which you'll pick up by observation, but these are reserved for informal occasions. A normal western handshake will do fine in most situations. If you decide to visit there try riding with zebras and antelopes across the rolling plateau of Nyika National Park, and taking a wildlife drive through Liwonde National Park to spot elephants, antelopes, hyenas and lions.

Here are some suggestions to check out:

Panama

Its name may be synonymous with a canal and a hat, but this little visited city has some of the finest birdwatching, snorkeling and deep sea fishing in the Americas.  Proud Panama celebrates its Spanish heritage with frequent and colourful festivals, seasoned with the influences of the seven remaining indigenous groups and the West Indian culture of its black population.  It's difficult to leave the country without feeling you're in on a secret the rest of the traveling world has yet to discover.  Can you imagine experiencing diving with the sea turtles on Archipelago de Bocas del Toro?  Do you like spicy food, try their national dish which is called sancocho ( a spicy chicken and vegetable stew).  The madness of Carnaval peaks on Shrove Tuesday with the biggest parade of all, and floats of all sizes rule the avenue, separated by bands of gaily dressed people walking slowly in themed formations, are some of the surprises to expect.

Please check out some of the items below to help you with your trip:

Paraguay

The tourist trail largely bypasses this small subtropical country, landlocked in the heart of South America, and therein lies much of Paraguay's charm.  Travellers who visit with an open heart and mind are rewarded with unspoilt natural beauty, an abundance of wildlife and some of the friendliest and most unaffected people in the world.  The Paraguans are most certainly the highlights of this Paraiso Perdido (Paradise Lost).  The best time to visit is May to September.  Read Augusto Roa Bastos ' Son of Man which ties together several episodes of Paraguayan history, or for travel literature try At the Tomb of the Inflatable Pig or Travels Through Paraguay by John Gimlette.

Here is some information for you to please check out:

Philippines

Closer to Spain and Mexico via the fabled galleon trade, and some say to Hollywood by way of its show-biz politics, the Philippines remains Southeast Asia's destination of surprises along routes less travelled.  There are more than 7000 shimmering islands to choose from, plus endless fiestas, but the best thing is the sense that there are still discoveries to be made.  With so many islands and comparatively few visitors, the Philippines is one of the last great frontiers in Asian travel.  Filipinos often deep fry their meat and fish and also love to eat pork fat, again preferably deep-fried.  Though some dishes may not appeal to you, don't pass up the chance to try lechon baboy ( a spit-roasted pig served with a rich liver sauce).

Please check out the items below for your travel to the Philippines:

Poland

Poland is a country of striking contrasts, contemporary city slickers fill the capital, Warsaw, while in the countryside horse-drawn carts negotiate peaceful lanes where the new millennium is just a rumour.  Nestled in the heartland of Europe, Poland has been both a bridge and a front line between eastern and western Europe.  Today the country has bounced back from the turmoil of the 20th century and reinvented itself as a must-do fixture on every traveller's map.  Every hour the bugle call is played on a trumpet from the higher tower of St Mary's Church in Krakow Square to the four quarters of the world in turn.  Today a musical symbol of the city, this simple melody, based on five notes only was played in medieval times as a warning call.   Since 1927 the bugle call has been played on Polish radio every day at noon.

Traveling Around

During the time I was working,  my job sent me to different locations for training.  Some of my travels sent me to different parts of Florida, Georgia, and Md.  While visiting Florida, I sailed on a sightseeing boat and saw rich people homes and other interesting sights.  I also went to see Dog racing which was fun and exciting.  At Niagara Falls, in Canada we rode under the falls and at night we watched as the falls lit up.   If you ever go to Niagara Falls check out the lights at night, it would be something you would never forget.  We went to St Michael's Md and stayed in a resort hotel that had a fireplace in each room.  The seafood was delicious and plentiful and you could eat all you want.  The sightseeing we did in Atlanta Georgia was very educational.  We visited Martin Luther King home, Church, and Museum.  These are some of the interesting and fun places to go if you plan on traveling.

Malta

At first glance, Malta appears to be steeped in the past. Ancient temples, the oldest free standing structures in existence, traditions dating back over 2500 years and buses that could have been around when Malta gained independence in 1964, it all makes you wonder if the country should be declared a living museum. Though Malta has a rich history it also offers beaches, bars, bustling Mediterranean life, friendly locals, a passion for fiestas, water sports and excellent opportunities for scuba diving.

Libya

Libya is the latest travelers hot spot and one of the last unspoilt places on the Mediterranean seaboard. Ripe for discovery are Libya's incredible hospitality, beautiful desert scape's, well preserved classical ruins, prehistoric rock art and palm fringed oases. Shopping in the bustling Medina in Tripoli, walking thru the streets of Benghazi, viewing the desert architecture and old city at Ghadhames, are some of the things to experience while in Libya. The drink for Libya is sweet mint tea or the excellent local mineral water. Some of the trademarks are ancient Roman and Greek cities, beautiful resort towns, historic mosques, and gorgeous beaches.

Some of the things to take on your visit to Libya are suggested here:

Mauritius

Mauritius boasts endless sugar cane plantations, dramatic mountains, a vibrant cultural mix and some of the finest beaches and aquamarine lagoons in the Indian Ocean. The island has a distinct Indian flavour, seasoned with African, Chinese, French, and British elements.  Have you ever tried a dish of curried chickpeas or a Yorkshire pudding on the terrace of a French cafe, sipping imported wine or a thick malty ale while listening to Creole music and the conversation of locals in any number of tongues?  Undersea walks are becoming increasingly popular in Mauritius- participants don lead boots and diving helmets and stroll along the seabed feeding the fish, while oxygen is piped in from the surface. The cornerstone of Mauritian Creole cooking is the Carri, a rich spicy onion sauce that owes a lot to Indian cooking. This is one dish that is best sampled in the home, or in the kitchen of a small guesthouse, where every cook creates their own personal blend of herbs and spices. Once you've tasted a home-cooked Carri Poisson (fish curry), other meals will seem bland.

Monaco

Although it's more a pre-breakfast stroll than a country, Monaco packs a lot of living into a little land.  Most of the people who dwell here come from somewhere else, drawn by the sun, glamorous lifestyle and most importantly tax free income.  This is the playground of Europe's elite, a country where lady luck might clean you out at the casino one day and put you on the Grimaldi guest list the next.  It's a glittering, swanking opportunity for people watching that shouldn't be passed up by amateur anthropologists.  Here are some experiences that you should like,  wandering around Monaco's Palais du Prince which was built in the 13th century, and sailing off Monaco in a glass bottomed boat.

Nepal

Draped along the heights of the Himalaya, Nepal's sublime scenery, time worn temples and peerless walking trails leave visitors spellbound.  Rich in spirituality and spectacular scenery, the country is the quiet cousin of neighbouring powerhouses China and India.  Nothing compares to being amongst some of the world's tallest peaks for a natural high, but while there are grand feats to be enjoyed in Nepal, part of the country's appeal lies in simple pursuits: witnessing age old rice harvesting or relishing the cultural cul-de-sac of Bhaktapur.  Nepal's most significant celebration, Dasain (October) involves the biggest animal sacrifice on the calendar.  Always remove your shoes before entering a Nepali home.

Mexico

Like its jalapeno peppers and tequila, Mexico embodies a spicy, fiery passion for la vida.  This same spirit overflows from the country's vibrantly colorful art and music, and its complex culture, history and geography.  Mexico's charm is its mix of modern and traditional, the cliched and the surreal, the ancient and the brand new.  True to the country's contradictory nature, the attitude towards the US, its neighbour to the north, is a combination of both uncertainty and longing.  The best time to visit is October to May, to avoid extreme temperatures.  How would you like to experience eating fish tacos at sunset on the beach in Zipolite?   Do you know any spanish, how about trying to say this ( ! Que le vaya bien!) which means May things go well for you.

Here are some things for you to check out before you go to Mexico;

Nicaragua

Tucked between Costa Rica and Honduras dazzling displays of indigenous history, Nicaragua is all too often ignored by travellers.  The warm inclusive pride of the Nicaraguan people suffuses the country with an intoxicating energy that captivates visitors.  Nicaragua is inspiring landscapes, colonial beauty, weeklong parties, beautiful beaches and long nights spent with friends in the plaza.

Palestine

Palestine is two territories of Israel: Gaza in West Israel, on the shores of the Mediterranean Sea, and  the West Bank bordering Jordan.  How would like to visit the birthplace of Christ?  This is the place to go, the holy land of the medieval Crusades, a landscape of striking contrasts.  In Palestine people buy everything right down to their morning coffee with a credit card.  Occasionally, though you might stumble on a coin bearing the name Palestine, dating back from the Ottoman Empire or British Mandate period.
